There are numerous facts and features about a typical school in America that foreigners consider to be unusual, curious, or even weird. The list below suggests such examples.
1. The teams

Well, this is something that could really puzzle someone from Europe, for example. Many schools across the U.S. have such teams.
2. The balls

This is a good question but it does not need a straight answer. The best way to reply would be “why not?” – after all, balls and dances bring people closer together.
3. The vending machines

Americans would be puzzled that foreigners are puzzled about this. Sure enough, not student would be comfortable in a school with no vending machines.

Here is yet another difference that is worth mentioning. Well, there are many examples of how schools develop and are successful thanks to the rivalry with other schools.

Here is one of the other typical American things many schools have. You cannot have any kind of major sports event without a cheerleader squad.
